We’re fast approaching Valentine’s Day. Whether you want to show your significant other just how significant they are or you want to celebrate your singledom with Galentine’s Day (Parks & Recreation style), February 14 always delivers some extra stress. What gift do I buy? Why am I #foreveralone? Who will split this cheesecake with me?

Our amazing city of Lincoln has a solution: Love on the Run.

Porridge Papers, a small stationery store on South Street, started this project as a way to give love back to the community it came from. The Love on the Run Project is an event where individuals go to the adorable shop (which is decked out with a live DJ and actual love birds), scour the many love poetry books for the perfect quote to type up on authentic, old-fashioned typewriters. After crafting the perfect message, it is rolled up and place it in a tiny bottle. The store also sets up a small romantic backdrop to capture Polaroid shots of you to include with the note. As their way of giving love back, Porridge Papers takes these notes, bottles and photos, which are all packed into a miniature gift bag addressed to your special someone, and hand delivers them.

For free.

From the hot drinks and snacks to the perfect hand-delivered Valentine’s Day gift, Love on the Run is truly one of the most special things Lincoln has to offer. The event took place at Porridge Papers on 1422 South Street, and ran from 10 a.m. til 6 p.m. on February 7.

On Union College’s own campus, the Business & Computer Science Club will be hosting a similar event. On Tuesday, February 17, from 11:30 a.m. (right after chapel) to 2 p.m., the Business Office will be set up with a note writing station, photo backdrop and a photographer. All BCS members can head up to the third floor of the Dick Building to confess their romantic feelings in a heartfelt hand-typed message. These will then be delivered with a Polaroid of the sender to the intended recipient. There will also be mini cupcakes for your enjoyment! We know Valentine’s Day will already be over, but this is a fun way to prolong the love fest.

Love on the Run is a unique way in which citizens of Lincoln show how much they love and appreciate one another. Let’s show how much more Union College members do the same.
