New Band in Town

You may have seen students walking throughout campus sporting an all-black tee with “Zooeys” written in unique font across the front. Those shirts represent a band comprised of four members, two of whom are current Union students. Cody Hagen and Cole Yeager are both members of the Zooeys. Cody plays the electric guitar while Cole presides over the drums.

The band formed when Cole Yeager was in search of a bass guitar, so Cody sent him a link to one on Craigslist. When Cole arrived at the house of the owner, only the wife was home. She invited him in while he waited a few minutes for the true owner. When the husband arrived, it turned out to be Zooey. Zooey was in search of musicians to start a band. After a few jam sessions with Cole, Cole headed back to California for the summer. While at home, Zooey sent Cole demos for the album. Cole wrote the drum section for the album and when he returned to Lincoln, they started recording. By January 2018, the entire album was completed. The band formed and they started practicing every week. Their first show was on April 2018, and since then, they’ve been playing shows, releasing music, and preparing to drop the album.

When asked about his favorite part of the band, Cole Yeager commented, “Bands form and break up all the time, and to find a group of guys like the Zooeys is a really special thing. I’m happy that I get to be myself on stage with them while playing really good music.”

The name Zooeys comes from the lead singer’s middle name, as he prefers to keep his identity under wraps. The band now has four singles out, with “Nothing but the View” being their latest release. You can find their music on Spotify, Apple Music and Google Play. They have several shows in the area, with the next being on October 4 at Lulu’s followed by a show on October 11 at Barley Street Tavern.

You can learn more about their band at https://thezooeys.com/, and if you’re looking to don a fashionable tee for only $20, reach out to Cole Yeager or Cody Hagen.
