7 ideas to post on social media

We all need a little inspiration when it comes to our social media. I like to use mine to see what my friends are up to. Of course, many of my friends post so rarely that I would not know they were alive if I didn’t see them in class every day. Here are some ideas to post that are not food, selfies, other people or landscapes. Those are fun and easy, but variety is the spice of life. Here are seven ideas for inspiration:

Quotes and Bible verses

There are a wide variety of options here. A quote that inspired you, one for the holiday or a verse that helped you through a hard time are a few of many possibilities. They don’t have to be your actual post; they make great captions as well. Canva is a great resource for making text posts, providing for any aesthetic you want.

Hobbies

Let your friends know what you’re into. There are always good photo opportunities for any hobby. If you like folding origami, showcase your work. Do you play games? You should post your setup. A great example is one of my friends who posted a photo of himself playing the piano. People see the photo, and they might learn something new about you.

Stories

If something funny or inspirational happens to you, tell your friends. Rather than post a generic selfie with a cheesy, overused caption, talk about your classes or what you did today. When I run into a long caption, I stop to read it. People care and want to hear.

Favorite places

Sharing where you like to go may seem boring, but I love seeing photos of the clocktower. Some ideas from here in Lincoln: The Mill, Holmes Lake, Barnes & Noble, Target, Sunken Gardens and Haymarket District.

Classes

As a communication major, I have run into countless stories that I could share. I know my friends in IRR also have many stories. Maybe share what happened in class or your plan for your final project. If you’re a nursing major, gross your friends out with unnecessary details.

Work

Similar to your classes, there is content with where you work. You can share (with permission) stories from your co-workers or a schedule explaining what you do in a shift. You can encourage commenters by asking for suggestions or ideas with problems.

Outfits

This goes for all genders. Outfits may just stay in your stories, but there is new content every day. This may be motivation for you to put effort into your outfits, or you may see this and laugh it off. Maybe you only feature one part of your outfit, like your shoes or your sweater – whatever works for you.
