Advancement hosts Parents Weekend October 5-7
This weekend brings the dawn of Parents Weekend, a time when Union welcomes parents onto campus to engage in a plethora of activities with their children, including a large event center at the Thunderdome on Saturday night. Parents Weekend starts Thursday evening and ends Sabbath evening. The theme for these three days is, families are thankful together.
The weekend is hosted by the Advancement Office and Campus Ministries, with involvement with both the faculty and College View Church (CVC) in putting the event together.
The Advancement Office oversees organizing major alumni and fundraising events on campus, including Parents Weekend and the alumni weekend, and is involved in many publications for the college. Parents Weekend is also one of Campus Ministries’ Power Pac weekends that happen monthly, bringing in special guests to speak each evening on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, connecting their message throughout the weekend. The special guest speaking this weekend will be J-Fiah Reeves, a graduate from Union College and previous pastor of the West Houston SDA church before becoming a seminary student.
The largest event will be the Saturday evening family fair in the Thunderdome, running from 7:45 – 9:30 p.m. It gives an excellent opportunity for students to spend time with their parents, and for parents to meet teachers in a more informal setting. The event will have free food, games, competitions with prizes, music and pumpkin-themed activities.
Parents Weekend is a time to look forward to, and these events give ample availability for students to spend time with their parents. Each event is focused on being thankful together, and Union is bringing that full swing by putting together this collection of recreations for students and parents to enjoy.
