Remembering Caleb Long

Caleb Long, senior biomedical science major died in a motorcycle accident near 70th and Nebraska Parkway on November 7. Many classes were canceled on campus on November 8, and Campus Ministires held a prayer vigil that evening. Long touched the lives of many people, both at Maplewood Academy and at Union College. His friends and professors spoke about the impact he had on them: Christina Burden-Page, his major professor, recalled Long’s eagerness to learn. “He had an openness and honesty in how he approached everything. He was ready to laugh and ready to do the hard work.” Burden-Page was also a spiritual mentor who met with Long each week in the school’s HeartScan program. “The conversations we had together were so uplifting.” Friend and classmate Nicole Hardt described Long as always seeming to have his life totally together. “He just knew everything all the time,” she said. “He was very organized. Very planned out.” Long’s friend Brendon Hart shared with KETV, “I’m not the same person I was when I met him, and he changed me for the better, and I would like to take that change forward and keep changing people the way he changed me.” We look forward to meeting Caleb Long again when Christ returns.
