Campus Ministries partners with People’s City Mission

This Saturday, March 2, 2024, Union College has the opportunity to work with the People’s City Mission in Lincoln. People’s City Mission (PCM) is an organization dedicated to serving the poor and homeless with a Christ-like attitude. Union College will help out at the shelter at 110 Q street, Lincoln Nebraska.

PCM was founded in 1907, obtained their first facility in 1909 and carried on their efforts through the Great Depression in 1928 aiding the people of Lincoln and providing emergency services through the city. In the 1960s, they held advocate programs for Native Americans, housing for families in need and rehabilitation centers for people struggling with alcoholism and drug abuse. Since then, PCM has expanded and become far more widespread, extending their programs to multiple buildings for support to the homeless and offering medical aid. PCM also started a veteran’s program and offers services for children.

Campus Ministries organized this event with PCM to help the community and find another branch for outreach. PCM itself is a Christian organization. Their mission statement is: “To be a witness for Christ among the poor and homeless, serve their needs and advocate for their cause to the community at large.” Union and PCM have been working together for years and this event has been impactful for students at Union College and the city at large.

Theology student Payton Arnett attended the event last year. “It was a great experience connecting not only with the people you’re serving, but with the people you’re serving with and being the hands and feet of Jesus,” he shared. The reviews left on the shelter page are glowing as well, promoting the idea of safety and love.

The PMC event is from 11:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The RSVP is available now on uGroups, and you must log into the events page in order to register.
