Fatal shooting in downtown Lincoln
On April 8th, at three in the morning, officers and personnel from Lincoln Fire and Rescue were called to the Royal Hookah Bar and Lounge at 16th & O Street in response to a complaint of a person who had been shot multiple times outdoors. At the scene, local authorities found the body of a man with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. The individual was identified as 32-year-old Gregory Little when he was taken to the hospital and given treatment. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his wounds.
According to an initial inquiry, Little and another individual got into a brawl with customers for cutting in front of them. According to LPD Assistant Chief Jason Stille, Little or another individual may have grabbed at the security crew's baton when they interfered. The security team was recruited from Omaha. Stille added that while the commotion persisted, a 24-year-old security man opened fire on Little four times. Little suffered gunshot wounds on his arm and chest, according to the police. In the morning, police detained several individuals to be questioned about the event that took place. However, all individuals were later released.
A vigil happened the following day on Monday. According to Gregory Little’s brother, John Scott Davenport II, “I was trying to figure out what happened, so I went to his house to see if he was home, and no one was there.” His other sibling Jay Vianna Davenport stated, “I grew up with him my whole life, I know two people in this world, my daughter and him, the most. He’s like one of the biggest teddy bears to me.”
His mother Vernadine Taylor passionately said, “I just need justice for my son. And I will get justice if it takes the last penny of my life. Until I die, he will get justice.”
The family and friends of Little are mourning the loss while local law enforcement is still continuing the investigation at the crime scene. Due to this, the Royal Hookah Bar & Lounge is temporarily closed for investigations to continue without obstructions. At the scene several firearms have been recovered and also several recordings of the shooting. According to police, no arrests have been made so far. Police encourage any witnesses to come forward with information and video recordings. People can contact the Lincoln Police Department at 402-441-6000 or Crimestoppers at 402-475-3600.
