This Was My Childhood
I haven’t written about any of the movies that I like. So far I have covered music that has impacted me. Now it’s time to move onto films I enjoy. DreamWorks Animation released a movie that failed at the box office but succeeded in Christian homes. The Prince of Egypt became the movie that many people loved to show on Sabbath. Kids learned the songs by heart and enjoyed every minute of it.
The Prince of Egypt is the animated Bible story about Moses. We know this story. It is the one that we all know and grew up with. However, this rendition brings Moses to life in an amazing way. Everything from his mother hiding him in the Nile to his life as royalty and his exodus into the wilderness shows his character and the struggle he dealt with as God called him to lead the Israelites.
It would be amiss if I didn’t mention this movie’s music. It is amazing and provides a way of making everything more epic and amazing then it already is. The opening song describes the slaves’ lives and the melody begins to show the relationship between Moses and his brother Rameses. The music is incredible and memorable.
Moses was called to achieve one of the most difficult tasks: bringing His people out of slavery. The Prince of Egypt depicts the Hebrews’ and Egyptians’ lives and shows what Moses went through in order to accomplish God’s mission.
The most important aspect of this movie is the dynamic between Moses and his brother Rameses. They care about each other despite the trouble they get each other in and are able to laugh at their mistakes even as they compete against one another. You can truly understand how terrible Rameses feels when Moses leaves Egypt. After that, Rameses becomes Pharaoh and continues in the steps of his father as a dictator to the Hebrew people. When Moses returns to Egypt to free the slaves, you can feel the tension between them both. The Prince of Egypt is first and foremost a story about Moses and his brother.
