Small-Town America: Mayberry with Cornfields
Lincoln has the feel of small-town America. It’s a place that feels like what you might see in a movie or a TV show. It reminds me of Mayberry from The Andy Griffith Show.
Mayberry is a fictional town where you can make a left turn and have seen the entire town. But the beauty is that even though the town is small, the people still love where they live. The people make the town.
Lincoln is not as small as Mayberry, but the people of Lincoln love their city like the people of Mayberry love their town. They’re some of the nicest people you will find. And though Lincoln seems small, there’s still plenty to do.
The Haymarket is an amazing place to go on the weekends. It’s a bustling area downtown filled with shops, restaurants and amusements. There you can find a weekly farmers market, haunted tours and baseball games! If you want to try something new to eat, the restaurants in the Haymarket have a variety of foods from some of the best home-made pizza at Mellow Mushroom, to amazing Sushi at Hiro 88.
For those interested in social movements, Lincoln has a focus on social justice. During the rise of the Black Lives Matter and Stop Asian Hate movements, Lincolnites gathered in walks to protest against the abuse of marginalized communities. People come out from everywhere to show their support for these movements.
The people make Lincoln. This city may be surrounded by cornfields but it’s still a great place. The people that make the restaurants, the events, the places and the movements amazing. This city may be slightly in the middle-of-nowhere, but the people still make it feel like home.
