Union College Logo Updated After 18 Years: The Unveiling Comes with Mixed Response From Students

New Union Logo

New Union Logo

Recently Union announced a brand new logo in an attempt to differentiate themselves from other small colleges, especially the two other Union Colleges. In conjunction with this, Union also has an updated mission and vision statement. The idea was to create a bold new logo to represent that Union is moving forward in bold ways. The designers also wanted to move away from a more traditional academic font to something a little more unique.

There are some similarities between the old and new logos. First of all, the colors are very similar. This is still a similar red to the Union in New York, but with the new design, it will hopefully be easier to distinguish them from each other. Second, the “swoosh” in the “O” has been kept, but moved to the “U.” According to Frankie Rose, the VP of academic administration, this was originally incorporated to represent the Golden Cords of Student Missions, and that imagery and symbolism was kept. The “U” is also enlarged to emphasize Union’s focus on each individual student.

The mission, vision statement and tagline are also updated.

Mission: “Union College is a Seventh-day Advenstist community of higher education, inspired by Jesus Christ, and dedicated to empowering students to learn, serve and lead.”

Vision: “Union College mentors every student to become a highly sought graduate who serves joyfully in God’s calling.”

Tagline: “Finding purpose. Unlocking potential.”

Joyfully living in God’s calling. We mentor every student and employee to develop a personal and spiritual journey and live God’s calling.

Student Mentorship. We make every student success our top priority through mentors who believe in and champion them

Highly Sought Graduates. We prepare every student to be a highly sought graduate with soft skills like leadership, communication, teamwork, problem solving, creativity and grit.

Empowered Employees. We develop and support every employee as our most important asset.

There have been some mixed feelings about this change. Some students have wondered at the need for change, and prefer the old logo. However, if Union strives to live up to the new mission statement and vision, no matter the logo, Union will continue to be a place leaders can be made.
