Nebraska vs. the Midwest

I’m sure that most of us have our opinions about Nebraska and sometimes compare it to our home states. Personally, in my state of North Carolina, I enjoy the warmer weather over what feels like the effects of Elsa after a breakup. Now it’s easy to look at the negatives, but let’s take a moment to see how Nebraska has its advantages over its Midwestern counterparts.

Illinois

Illinois is dubbed ‘The Land of Lincoln,’ yet if you want to go to Lincoln’s namesake city, you have to drive seven hours west to Nebraska!

I would also bring up the fact that East St. Louis exists, but that one’s self explanatory… Let's just say that East St. Louis is the New Jersey of Illinois.

Michigan

Now a lot of us like to complain about the winters in Nebraska, but we don’t have to suffer the way the Michiganians do. They have a little something called lake-effect snow. This is essentially water from the great lakes evaporating into the atmosphere and causing even more brutal snowstorms. Fortunately Nebraska doesn’t have many lakes to have that effect.

All states have something that they’re known for producing. Nebraska has its corn, yet the thing that Michigan seems to be known for producing is cases of lead poisoning.

I’m sure we’ve all heard of the motor city of Detroit, yet it can’t even be called that anymore as all the motors in Detroit seem to have been stolen.

Ohio

If you ever find yourself in Ohio during a tornado warning, it’s best to take shelter in the Cleveland Browns’ Stadium, as there’s no chance of a touchdown.

Unlike Nebraska, if you want to feel like you’re riding a carriage in the 1800s’ just drive on Ohio’s roads. There’s more potholes than actual roads.

Another advantage that Nebraska has over Ohio is the fact that Nebraska doesn’t have the same abundance of serial killers that Ohio does. Notorious killers such as Jeffrey Dahmer are known to have attended school in Ohio. Unsettling, to say at the least.

So while this absolute punishment of a cold front hits us like a supersonic train, let this article be a reminder to you that this state has many things going for it that can’t be said for its counterparts.
