2025 Grammy Nominations
And Grammy Snubs
The Grammy nominations are in. Announced November 8, the selections have caused quite the stir. Though the actual award ceremony will not take place until early February, the nominees have been announced to the public. There has been great unrest in the eyes of fans due to who — or who has not — been nominated for these awards.
Among the artists who are now potential candidates for the accolades include fan favorites such as Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Beyoncè and Taylor Swift. None of these artists were all too shocking. However, there was a group nominated that no one was expecting. This world-famous group has been inactive since the 1970s and they are none other than the Beatles. In fact, the iconic group has been nominated for 25 Grammys, an insane statistic. The song, “Now and Then,” is a long time coming. George Harrison even contributed a line before his untimely passing in 2001. Because it was structured around a very old tape demo, the track never sounded right, so it was shelved for decades until recent advancements in AI technology allowed them to separate John Lennon’s voice from his piano playing. The song is an emotional send-off for the beloved group.
The unexpected nominations aren’t the only shocking outcome of the listings. There were many artists snubbed from nominations, many of which stunned fans and critics. Some of these artists include Dua Lipa, Megan Thee Stallion, Dolly Parton, Zayn, Nicki Manaj and Justin Timberlake. Even more shockingly, an entire genre of music was left out of the event. Not one single K-Pop artist was given recognition via a nomination. Each of these artists produced music in the past year that deserved accolades and recognition. Yet, as it usually happens, the Grammys happen to be much more of a popularity contest rather than based on talent.
In the past, there have been many artists snubbed of Grammys. Snubs happen all the time; however, the idea of leaving out a whole genre from the awards definitely makes the academy appear as if they are just gratifying their favorite artists. Artists such as Taylor Swift and Beyoncè have accumulated a combination of 43 Grammys, a staggering amount. This makes one wonder if the award show is just catering to them, and others, rather than selecting artists who have worked incredibly hard in the past couple years. That’s not to say these two artists haven’t worked hard. It simply means that there might be others that are more deserving.
Regardless of the outcome, the award ceremony will take place February 2, 2025. Until then, viewers and fans will wait in anticipation to see if their favorite artist will win awards for the various categories.
