Campus Ministries Team Hosts Late Night Worship

On Wednesday, Oct. 9, Union’s Campus Ministries team organized a Late Night Worship hosted at The Well Sabbath School room from 9:15-10 p.m. Mallory Heinbaugh said, “Our worship leaders on CM wanted to bring worship through music to more than just vespers. So we decided to make it a late-night worship for anyone who would like to worship with us. Kylie Wehling said, “Planning the late-night worship has been something I've wanted to do for a long time now. I've always enjoyed building community by worshiping and praising God through music. Getting together with my worship leaders and spreading the word was just part of the planning.

They encouraged students to come throughout the week, offering snacks and worship credit to those who attended. This is a good opportunity for students who enjoy playing their instruments and singing.

They chose to praise God through music led by the Holy Spirit. The instrumentals included a keyboard, guitar, cajon and cello. Sara Mathey, a student at Union, brought her guitar to join the band. She said, “I love the opportunity to worship with friends and to praise God. These kinds of unplanned jam sessions are my favorite…one of my favorite moments is when the instruments fade out and it’s just the voices. It feels very intimate.”

The relaxed atmosphere encouraged those present to choose songs. The musicians played in synchrony which allowed a smooth flow between songs. The service was on the smaller side, with around 30 people, but more trickled in as the evening progressed. Both the musicians and the worshippers harmonized and some watched while others sang. Lyrics were displayed on phone screens and several people gained a blessing from hearing the harmonies created by instruments and voices.

Jerald Alido, another student at Union, said, “This is definitely an event I love to attend even though I’m usually super busy and caught up in the hustle and bustle of schoolwork. This gives me the time to settle all of my burdens on God and just praise Him for all the good things that have happened to me throughout the week. I think that this is a great opportunity for students to place their minds away from worries and anxieties about school and gives them time to focus on God.”

After about ten songs, the worship came to a finish. Kylie Wehling offered a prayer to close by asking for blessings and God’s presence to be in students’ lives throughout the rest of the week.
