Inside Out 2

Now streaming on Disney+

Disney+ is now streaming “Inside Out 2.” Viewers who did not get the chance to catch the animated film in theaters can now watch it from the comfort of their home — or dorm room. The film was a big hit in theaters back in June and is expected to engross millions more on Disney’s streaming service. “Inside Out” 2 is a film that people of all ages can enjoy with its interesting plot line, endearing characters, adult humor and childlike nature.

What is the sequel’s premise? Well, “Inside Out 2” picks up a couple years after the first film. Riley is now a 13-year-old hockey enthusiast who is getting ready to head into high school alongside her two best friends. However, on Riley’s way to hockey camp, she is told some big news that has the opportunity to change her friendships and loyalties. In fact, it seems that everything is changing and the world is a scarier place than she imagined.

Internally, Riley is changing as well. The emotions, and some could argue the main characters of both films, encounter some new faces inside their headquarters. “Inside Out 2” introduces emotions Anxiety, Envy, Ennui and Embarrassment. At first, the newbies try to get along with the originals Joy, Fear, Anger, Sadness and Disgust, but things get out of hand and the originals are locked away, becoming suppressed emotions.

With Joy and the others out of the picture, Anxiety takes the lead, guiding Riley to make new friends and take chances at hockey camp. But after disaster strikes, the new emotions learn that they need the old and the old need the new, for Riley to succeed.

This film teaches the importance of emotions in a whole new light. It shows that even emotions that are considered to be negative, like Anxiety or Anger, have a time, a place and can be positive. Emotions all serve an important purpose and it is important to keep some in check and not let them get in the way of important events in life, just as this film shows.

“Inside Out 2” is a great film for viewers of every age and allows for some good laughs and ironically, anxiety-filled scenes that make the viewer cringe. The filmmakers did an excellent job replicating the teenage experience and tackles Riley’s new emotions in a fun way. Stream “Inside Out 2” for a great experience!
