Mental Health Awareness Week

Resources for students

The campus of Union Adventist University dedicates a week this year to the application and general aid of individuals struggling with Mental Health. The mental health of the campus individuals has been a recurring concern for the campus and it is a foremost focus for the councilors and staff. There are a plethora of available resources around campus for consultation or questions about mental health. Students are encouraged to take advantage of these resources to help them become more well-rounded in matters like these. They can also help strengthen other people’s mental health journeys by continually being there for them.

Mental Health Awareness Week spans campus from Sept. 29 to Oct. 5 and is a time to bring attention to the mental health of students and staff alike. It also helps remind the students to seek help and attention if anything in life becomes too overwhelming. There are many different subjects of mental health such as anxiety, depression and burnout. These are completely valid ways to feel and this awareness week allows us to address these feelings in a safe manner.

The school offers resources for mental health and there are different outside resources near the school that are available too. While the subject is generally considered under the Campus Health sector, much of the mental health struggle is aided by a group called Active Minds. This is a club within Union that consists of 550 chapters across the United States; the goal is to promote safe and healthy communication in mental health spheres. Furthermore, some of the off-campus resources include College View Harmony Health at 4719 Prescott Ave. and the Lincoln Health Group at 8101 East O Street #300. Both of these resources can also be contacted by phone which will be listed below. For students who cannot attend these resources in person, the school also supports online counseling and aids the finding of virtual care on the Campus Health main page.
