Almost Anything Goes
The night of the semester
Union’s Thunderdome gym turned chaotic Saturday night after students arrived to participate in “Almost Anything Goes” which is a school activity organized by SA (Student Association). Every class was involved, from freshmen to seniors. They were all put in their own corner, ready to take each other on in various games which tested speed, brains, teamwork, and even creativity. The first game, which was a very sly game, caught everyone off guard. A well-known cup game that resembled the game “Simon Says.” It was a speedy contest that kept the participants on their toes. The participants were in a squatting position, tapping body parts on command, such as heads, arms, shoulders, etc., until the magic word “cup” was called out. This word had participants diving like goalkeepers for a red party cup, which was placed between the two opponents.
The next game was the main game, junk scramble, which was broken into three different rounds. Participants who were in attendance for the night’s event brought “junk” from their rooms. These “junk items” were things like a mattress, hair dryer, heater, etc. The participants stacked the junk and made a pile. When the host of the game called an item, the classes were searching their pile for the item, and when a team member found the item, they were supposed to rush it all the way to the center of the gym and place it on a mat. Judges such as Dean Santi, Ryan Teller, and more were there making sure the game was fair for all parties.
After that, we played a game known as the “Human Hula-Hoop Chain”. Each class would select seventeen students each, and the classes had to hold hands together as they tried to pass a hula-hoop through the line without losing grip. This was a game that tested balance, creativity, and coordination. Afterwards, we entered the second round of junk scramble, and then there was a game of tug-of-war. This game tested teamwork, coordination, and strength. The game was a very interactive game as it had teams and supporters cheer each other on. The night wrapped with the final round of junk scramble before students grabbed donuts and Gatorade, courtesy of SA, to refuel after the nonstop action. When the scores were tallied and announced, the following were the results;
4th place: Freshmen
3rd place: Sophomores
2nd place: Seniors
1st place: Juniors
Securing victory and bragging rights until next year, the juniors won the match.
Almost Anything Goes brought out the competitive spirit of every class and gave students a chance to unwind, connect, and laugh together. Huge thanks to everyone who showed up, played hard, and brought the energy that made the night unforgettable.
