Family and culture

Descriptions and predictions of SA’s latest events

Last weekend at Union Adventist University, the Student Association team opened its arms as we celebrated Family Night, which is a heartwarming event that brings together students, alumni, and their families. The campus immediately transformed into an open space. From the moment families arrived, the atmosphere was immediately filled with laughter, stories, and hugs, which brought the feeling of home on campus. One of the night’s major highlights was when our very own Student Association President, Yann, suited up and stepped onto the court to participate in the family night’s basketball game. Cheers echoed and rained through the gym as students and families cheered each other on throughout every play, turning. This made the game into more than just a match; it became a moment of unity and energy, which reminded everyone of the importance of community. The fun didn’t stop there; just steps away from the court was a campus fair. One of the standout attractions? A temporary tattoo station that had lines forming within minutes. Students, siblings, and even parents took turns getting drawn on with fun designs.

If you thought Family Night was big, just wait for what’s coming this weekend. This Saturday night is, cultural night. This Saturday night, expect vibrant colors to be displayed, wonderful flavors to please your taste buds, and amazing sounds and dances. Students with different ethnicities will take center stage to proudly represent their heritage. This weekend, we should expect traditional dances, international cuisine, vibrant fashion, and music that will have the whole campus on its feet and keep them on their feet. Each booth and performance offers a chance to learn something new, taste something unfamiliar, and celebrate the global family we’ve built here at Union Adventist University. Events like Cultural Night remind us that although we may come from different countries and backgrounds and that we may have unique traditions, we are all united by something deeper. As it says in Galatians 3:28, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” No matter our culture, our Creator has made us uniquely and wonderfully, and it is through Him that we are brought together.

Week after week, SA continues to build bridges between students, staff, families, and now nations. Whether it’s through sports, movies, family bonding, or global celebration, they prove time and again that community isn’t just built, it's lived.
