Project impact starts off school year
Volunteer opportunity, community service, Campus Ministries
With classes having started a few weeks ago, the first semester of the Fall 2025 Semester is in full swing. People are settling into their rooms, trying not to get lost on campus, and learning to adapt to the workload from all their classes. Along with that, many have also taken the challenge of adding sports, clubs and extracurriculars to their plate. With September approaching earlier this semester, Campus Ministries prepared for its annual community service event: Project Impact.
Project Impact is an event that our school holds to serve the community and, more importantly, serve God. Additionally, this helps students to be familiar with their community and find opportunities to serve. While not required, Project Impact is great for students who want to make a difference through service and form connections with others.
It consists of Union Adventist University, College View Academy and Georgestone Elementary students and staff who signed up for the activity they wanted to do beforehand. They were then taken to various organizations all over Lincoln, Nebraska to help with various tasks. The tasks varied from place to place, but included tasks such as picking up trash, organizing food and clothes, and handing out booklets at people’s homes. This year, it was held on September 4 and lasted from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
This year, I participated in Project Impact for the first time with a team that went to the Good Neighbor Community Center. The Good Neighbor Community Center provides basic needs such as food, clothes, and several services to those who need them. I helped by organizing and restocking food, as well as folding cardboard for recycling.
It was a really meaningful experience to me because, not only was I able to do something to help people, but I also had a great time in general. The staff at the Community Center were so nice, and the team that I was with made the experience all the more fun. It was really meaningful to me because I was able to help people and form bonds with those I worked with.
Project Impact is a great experience that students should try at least once while they are at UAU. As someone new to Nebraska, I’m glad I was able to be a part of Project Impact this year, and I look forward to participating again next year.
