Snow Mercy

Bundle Up U-Fam!

I gotta say U-Fam, it feels nice to finally feel like we’re seeing the light at the end of the dark tunnel that was these last few frosty weeks. First it was ice, then snow, and finally brutal cold but we persevered and were rewarded with some beautiful weather that's making a nice brown slush out of the leftover snow. One thing that was a bit unfortunate about the whole spit of bad weather, besides the bad roads, bitter cold, runny noses, etc. was that we didn’t even get one snow day out of the whole thing!

Preemptively I just want to say that the little “half day” does NOT count as a snow day, if I have to change out of my winter onzie and get up to be responsible then that is not a day off. In fact, I even had an exam that day that I would have loved to sleep through. Honestly though the one good thing about having school that whole week was that I got to practice sliding all over the roads and flying into snow banks, airtime was sick though! After a few days of snow, the Nebraska weather did what it always does and got worse, bringing several day long negative temps that were excellent for those who want to lose feeling in their fingers, toes, and nose.

Though I was holding out hope that the bitter cold would force a day off, that was not in the cards for us U-Fam. To be fair, it wouldn’t have been reasonable to expect classes to cancel because of some slight cold but I will say that my fingers did get fully frostbitten and gangrenous during the walk from the parking lot to campus and I had to have them amputated, making this article very hard to write. That being said, the cold we experienced will only make the incoming warm weather sweeter. Hopefully the nice weather persists and the sudden change in temps doesn’t bring with it a tornado but even if it does, I can personally guarantee you that Union will be holding classes.
