Sub-Zero Temperatures hit Campus

Dress appropriately in the coming days

Union Adventist University has had multiple days in the past weeks that have maintained a freezing temperature, with Wednesday, January 22 being the warmest day of the week so far. Last Monday, the temperature was all the way to -7.6 degrees and on Tuesday it decreased again to -11.2 degrees. The forecast continued to indicate slightly higher temperatures, as the weather on Thursday is set to be sunny, with a cool high of 20 degrees and a wind chill value of down to -3 degrees. Thursday night may get progressively colder, with lows of 9 degrees above 0 and a windchill value of down to -3 degrees.

Continuing on, Friday matched Wednesday’s temps, with highs in the lower 40’s and a windchill value of -2 degrees in the morning. Friday night lost the trend of cold temperatures as it was forecast to rest in the low 20’s. Saturday follows the same trend as Friday, however the forecast suggested a mostly cloudy night to accompany it. This, however, did not mean that it cooled off over the weekend. In fact, Tuesday it was forecasted to be up to the mid-50’s, with jumps from 20 degrees to 40 degrees or higher.

With the new increase in temperatures after the many weeks of below-freezing temps, and following the coldest week of this semester so far, it would behoove students to dress appropriately for the weather at hand and remain prepared for different heat levels. Most of the students on campus have acclimated to the temperatures of Nebraska in the previous weeks and so this sudden increase in temperature can be a blessing for those who enjoy the warmth, or a disappointment for those who prefer the cold temperatures recently provided. With this much fluctuation, it can be hard to tell how to dress for each day, so ensure that you watch the weather so that you aren’t freezing and when it gets too hot, perhaps switch to a lighter jacket. Alternatively, if it is extremely cold, wear gloves and a cozy hat to keep you as warm as
