Shrek on Deck

Staring your favorite ogre

Three weeks ago, we were hammocking under the sunset at Holmes Lake; two weeks ago, we were diving for cash at Larson’s pool. Now, with the semester officially a quarter of the way through, Student Association reminded us that sometimes the best memories come not only from competition or adventure, but from simply reliving the joys of childhood memories. Last week’s Student Association event felt like something out of a dream. An entire movie theater was rented out just for us. The featured film, you may be wondering? Shrek. The timing? Absolutely Impeccable. With the pressure of midterms slowly building and assignments starting to stack up, Student Association offered a much-needed moment to pause, exhale, and live, laugh, love. Students filed into the reserved theater with popcorn buckets in hand, many of them quoting iconic lines before the screen even lit up. From its catchy soundtrack to the Donkey's legendary humor and iconic jokes, the energy in the room was very lively. It wasn’t just about watching a movie; it was about going back in time when life felt simpler

The decision to screen Shrek wasn’t just a random decision; it was an Albert Einstein-level of brilliance. With its blend of humor from different backgrounds, as there was a diverse number of people there, and timeless themes that took us all the way back to childhood, the film united students from all backgrounds in shared laughter and warm memories. For about 90 minutes, stress melted away and childhood wonder returned for the night. This wasn’t just an isolated moment; it was part of The Student Association’s consistent rhythm of creativity and connection. Just the week before, Splash for Cash had students diving headfirst into Larson’s Pool, chasing after soaking wet dollar bills. Before Holmes Lake. Now, this movie night felt like a bridge between the two extremes. Not quite as wild as diving for cash, and not quite as calm and peaceful as singing under the stars, but still all so unforgettable.

What’s clear is that the Student Association has mastered the art of timing. Just when the campus needs a boost, a big surprise is waiting. Whether it’s slippery kickball, flag football with hot chocolate and good music, or a green ogre on a big screen, every weekend feels like a chapter in a bigger story. As we step into week five, students are already whispering about what’s next, but one thing is for sure: The Student Association isn’t slowing down, and if the past few weekends have shown us anything, it’s that community, creativity, and maybe even a little bit of chaos are all here to stay.
