Winter fun around Union

Activities to do this winter

As we head into winter, you might be wondering what activities you can do when the snow starts falling. Here are some fun suggestions for the snowy months: ice skating, sledding, photography, ice fishing, snow angels creating, and snowball fights. I’m sure that there are many more activities to do around Lincoln, but these are the cheapest and easiest!

Firstly, ice skating is a fun activity to try. Just gliding around the ice can be very relaxing. This is an activity that you can do by yourself or with friends, and it can also be a great date idea. If you are a beginner, there is always the rink railing to hold onto; just go slow and have fun. Take your time and enjoy the moment!

A second idea is sledding. One of the most popular places to go sledding in Lincoln is at Homes Lake, where there are little slopes that you can go up and down to your heart's content. Just remember to bundle up in order to stay warm. Another suggestion is to buy a sturdy sled, one that is durable for the entirety of the winter season. The best thing about sledding is that it’s for everyone: family, friends, and even for your first date!

Next is photography, one of my favorite activities. While it is fun to do anytime of the year, it’s especially fun during winter. It is such a beautiful time of the year to take photos, despite the cold. Whether taking pictures on your phone, iPad, or a digital camera, it never gets old to feel the relaxation of being in nature. It’s amazing to capture the moments of what God has given us to live and witness every day.

Fourthly, ice fishing is an activity that can be done at Homes Lake. However, the weather must be cold enough for the water to freeze over. This can be especially cold, so remember to bring along warm gear! If fishing isn’t your thing, just know that this activity requires a lot of patience and time.

And lastly, making snow angels and having snowball fights are two activities that can be done here on our beautiful campus with friends and family. This can be dangerous so be mindful and watch out for ice and sticks when throwing those snowballs. They can really do some damage if you’re not careful.

But nonetheless, these are all very fun things to do when the snow gets heavy and the weather gets colder. If any of these great activities sound appealing to you, check them out. It might be worthwhile and a very fun way to make new memories with friends and family, or even just by yourself.
