A Community Providing Hope

This past Sabbath, the community of Union College and Lincoln, NE came together for a special event. When the hurricanes hit our country, there were three students at Union that wanted to do something about it. By God's help, Lydia Fleming, Caleb Haakenson, and Robert Leslie planned and organized in a week and a half, a benefit concert called Praise In The Storm: Hope For Houston. This concert brought music groups from Union College, Lincoln and Omaha together to help raise funds for the victims. The night was full of worship and encouraging music letting attendees know that even though our world is suffering, there is hope and God has everything in control. The concert was successfully only by the Lord's power and will. The goal was to raise $5,000 but God has other plans in mind. The concert raised over $14,000 in funds that will help send 2 teams of IRR students down to Houston to help the victims.
There are also plans for long term giving. The ASB team is planning a clothing and food drive to help not just the Hurricane Harvey victims, but also the victims of the other hurricanes that are affecting our country. There will also be a penny wars drive that each division is participating to help raise additional funds. In Isaiah 6:8, the Bible says, “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? and who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I, Send me!’” I'm proud to belong to a college family that answers that call to serve and help others in multiple ways.
