A Delightful Harvey's Harvest
On September 27, multiple buses loaded up with students and headed out to the residence of Harvey and Nancy Meier for the annual “Harvey’s Harvest.” The evening hours were spent engaging in fellowship with one another: sitting on the grass chit-chatting, tossing foam sports-balls around, and partaking in the catered Chipotle. Despite the cloudy weather, everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. The night concluded with a beautiful vespers service under the stars (and strings of lights), with a talk delivered by Dr. Toews. It was an inspirational end to a calm night.
Hannah Dreweick heartily agreed, “It was great to worship God under the beauty of the stars.”
I brought Hannah’s comment up in an interview with Olivia Jacobs. She elaborated on the idea by saying, “I thought it was a blessing. I’ve never heard Dr. Toews speak outside of the classroom, so it was great to see a different side to him. It was nice to hang out with my friends, play frisbee and toss the footballs around. The vespers was really relaxing. Being on campus is different because we all disappear afterward to go about with our busy lives. But at Harvey’s Harvest, we were all in one spot, and we were able to hang out as a big group. The weather was great for a picnic-style event this year and the food was delicious. It’s always fun to hang out outside with a campfire going. It’s definitely one of my favorite vespers of the year.”
It is incredibly generous of the Meiers to share their home with the community. The pleasant atmosphere was a perfect setting to create memories with close friends. The event doesn’t show any signs of stopping soon, and that is much appreciated by Union’s students.
