November in music
Five albums to wrap up autumn
As Thanksgiving draws closer, autumn’s rapid onset is on everyone’s minds. Some people may take advantage of consuming Christmas films and music in early November and others may even go as far as to set up their trees. But as it is still the autumn season, here are a few albums that encompass fall and keep the season present.
“Nobody is Listening” - Zayn
The first album of this list was actually released in January of 2021. Despite this minor detail, Zayn’s third album gives a fallish vibe to the room it is played in. Tracks such as “River Road,” “When Love’s Around” and “Tightrope” give the listener a feeling of nostalgia and longing — sentiments that scream fall.
“Bridge Over Troubled Water” - Simon and Garfunkel
A fall classic, Simon and Garfunkel bring a fall feeling with their lyrics. While the title of the album gives away the most famous track, everyone can recognize the significance of this album and its correlation to fall. The sound of the songs on this album, such as “Nobody is Listening,” make the listener feel as if they are in the center of a leaf-turned forest in the middle of fall.
“Faith in the Future” - Louis Tomlinson
Louis Tomlinson is probably the least-known but extremely underrated artist on this list. However, that does not negate from his ability to capture fall with music. With the release of his second solo album, Tomlinson brings autumn to life. Tracks including “Chicago,” “Bigger Than Me” and “All This Time” add to the essence of fall in a beautiful way. The combination of lyrics and Tomlinson’s unique sound make this a worthy fall listen.
“Rumors” - Fleetwood Mac
Recognized for tracks including “Dreams” and “The Chain,” “Rumors” is a great album that is perfect for a chilly fall day. The music from Fleetwood Mac in general boosts a cool weather vibe, but this particular album does the season the most justice.
“Harry Styles” - Harry Styles
Though Styles is typically recognized for hits “Watermelon Sugar” and “As It Was,” his first album, released back in 2017, donates a rock-sounding version to his music. Through his own claims, he drew inspiration from Fleetwood Mac, and perhaps this is why the album feels the way it does. The similarities are there, especially in songs such as “Kiwi.” HS1 is a great addition to a fall-inspired list of albums— one that music lovers should check out.
