Scientific discovery creates outcry in Krueger

On March 17, 2024, in the Krueger Center chemistry department, a group of students ran an experiment to create a light-gradient in a prism, a common experiment to show how light splits and refracts to produce a rainbow. The students proceeded as planned until a TA, assuming the lab closed, turned the lights off to the room. According to the eye-witness reports, when the lights turned off, the prism’s color didn’t fade as it usually would, and within it instead showed an optical illusion of a form in the prism. After a few moments of conjecture and study, the group turned the lights on to find the figure remaining within the prism.

The students involved, who wish not to be named, stated that the figure spoke in rhymes and appeared to carry a harp and a pot of gold. The students also said that the man in the prism, “Wore all green, bright and dark colors, and a black belt with a shined gold buckle.” Another said that he was, “Weirdly well dressed for a prism-man.” All the students present also agree that the man was irate at the situation he was placed in and kept yelling about the sanctity of his pot of gold, that no one must find it.

The chemistry lab in question is currently locked, and no students are allowed to enter the room until further notice by Union College staff. Currently the theory by many Union students is that there was a gas leak within the room itself, but others have conjectured that perhaps the group’s story has some truth to it. The faculty have yet to make any statement on the issue, causing further suspicion within the campus. However, some passing by the locked room have heard muffled, incessant shouting. Other students heard the sound of a harp being played behind the closed door. Could there be any validation of the student’s scientific claims?
