The 76th Emmy Awards
The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards were hosted last Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. The event hosted all of Hollywood’s biggest actors, directors and producers. Stars in attendance included Selena Gomez, Andrew Scott, Robert Downey Jr., Jennifer Anniston and many others who came in support of their own individual projects.
There were many winners during September’s biggest award show, but the most prominent included Shōgun and Hacks which won the awards for the biggest categories — Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Comedy Series, respectively. Each of the winners gave the typical “thank you” speeches, and nothing really stood out among the acceptees deliveries.
Speaking of Shōgun, the show won big on Sunday night, obtaining a tally of eighteen awards, a record-breaking number. This is the first time a series of any kind has ever won so many awards for a single season. Despite this large number, the number of nominations the show received was much larger, a whopping 25.
Shōgun wasn’t the only series that won awards, however. As previously mentioned, Hacks also won, beating the series The Bear, which was the suspected favorite for the comedy award. Other shows that received Emmys include Baby Reindeer, The Morning Show, The Crown and multiple others.
While there were many winners, there were a few highly-anticipated series that did not win the awards that were expected. One of these includes Only Murderers in the Building, which stars Selena Gomez opposite Steve Martin and Martin Short. In the past few years, this series has won several awards, including Emmys, People’s Choice Awards for Creative Arts and Female TV Star.
The awards and winners were the main spotlight of the event, but there were other things that caught people’s attention. Two of these include reunions of cast members who have not seen each other in over a decade. The first was the reunion of the cast of The West Wing, a show fictionalizing the White House and Washington D.C., which ended all the way back in 2006. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the start of the show. Each of the cast members had something nice to say publicly.
Overall, the Emmys were a big event, showcasing many stars and promoting their shows and series. Each winner will go on to create more original content for viewers to watch for a long time.
