All Things Athletic

What the Warriors have been up to
Christmas break is fast approaching, and our athletes are gearing up for their last games and events before locking in for finals week. Here’s a final look into what’s been going on with athletics here at Union and what to look forward to next semester.

Women’s Basketball

The Lady Warriors had a rough start to the season, and they took heavy losses in the first few games. However, with the volleyball season ending, the athletes who play both basketball and volleyball have been able to focus on just basketball, which has increased the number of players able to participate in each game. The team has had three December games to close out the season. The first was a tight game against Kansas Christian College, but our turnover rate cost us the few points we needed to win. The second game was another hard loss, but with only half the team able to make the game, the Warriors adapted and pushed through as they always do. (This article was written before the third game happened, so I don’t have data on that yet, but check out the athletics page on the Union website for more info.) During break, there are two games scheduled, and as soon as the spring semester begins, the second half of the season will be in full swing.

Men’s Basketball

The men’s team has also had three December games to end the year. The team has had to figure out how to work together with the recently graduated seniors gone, and their hard work is paying off. The men’s first December game was also against KCC, and the two teams were neck and neck up until the buzzer rang. This put the game into overtime, and the Warriors pulled ahead to win by six points. The next game didn’t end as well. (And again, as I am writing this, the third game hasn’t happened yet.) The men are looking forward to the new semester and the two games during break. Be sure to mark your calendar for January 24, 2026, when both the men and women will be playing in the Thunderdome for the first home game of the second semester.

Gymnaires

In late November, the Gymanires headed out of state for the Adventist community’s annual AcroFest. This year, it was hosted by Southern Adventist University, with high school and college students from across the states gathering for this special event. The theme this year was “Point to God,” as the participants focused on using their love of acro to build community and point their energy and talent into glorifying our Creator. Along with the much-loved Saturday night showcase where all the teams come together to watch each other perform, the acro teams also participated in mini competitions, and each college paired up with one or two high schools to practice different skills. With over a thousand participants, the athletes carried on their age-old tradition of sleeping on the mats they use for practice. Talk about some team bonding! Also, during the first weekend of December, the team headed out to Sunnydale Adventist Academy for their first tour of the year. After break, the team will continue to build community, teach new skills, and share Jesus through worship with academies across the states.

In Closing

Good luck during finals, and we’ll see you in the new year for some Warrior action!
