Avengers: Doomsday

Marvel announces cast of new project

Marvel Studios has just proven that the MCU is not dead with the announcement of their up-and-coming project “Avengers: Doomsday.” Announced back in July of last year with the return of Robert Downey Jr., the Russo brothers – who directed “Captain America” 2 and 3, “Infinity War”, and “Endgame” – are beginning production of their next massive movie. Filming for this project has already begun in England over the past month and fans all over the world are ecstatic about the new blockbuster.

But this is not the only information leaked by the studio. A couple weeks ago, Marvel hosted a livestream revealing half the cast of the new film. This included predicted names such as Sebastian Stan, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh and many others, but also showed massive reveals, people that no one expected.

Among the surprises were huge names such as Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, both known within the MCU for their respective roles of Magneto and Professor X. While many assumed that the X-Men could potentially play a role in the new Avengers movie, the announcement confirmed it. Alongside former castmates from the iconic 20th Century Fox movies, the X-Men are officially set to join the ranks of the heroes from Earth-199999.

Even though this was shocking, the X-Men weren’t the only surprises. Marvel also revealed the arrival of the Fantastic Four to also join the Avengers. This equally iconic group has a new franchise led by Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic (which is coming to theaters July 25 of this year). Marvel announced that the Fantastic Four will be joining this already stacked cast, much to the joy of many fans. Another shocking addition was the reveal of Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston. The last time we saw Hiddleston’s iconic character was in his show which ends with him sacrificing himself for the multiverse, fulfilling his heroic destiny. It will be interesting to see what chaos is caused that will pull him into the plot of this insane cast.

However, the inclusions weren’t the only shocking factors of the cast. There were many iconic characters–and actors–excluded from the list. Marvel has announced that this is only half of the cast members but it was still shocking to see actors such as Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Ruffalo, the members of of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and many other anticipated names. In time the rest of the cast will be announced, but it is interesting to see iconic characters left out of the new Avengers film.

This reveal took place on March 26, streaming for a total of over five hours. Thousands of people across the world tuned in to see this massive cast announcement and this proves that Marvel is still very much alive.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theaters on May 1, 2026.
