Wellness Wednesdays
Proactive self-care on campus
On Wednesday, January 15, Union Adventist University launched Wellness Wednesdays with a wellness walk in the Reiner Wellness Center. This initial meeting was led out by Benji Bollinger and Kristine Follett. Wellness Wednesdays are one of the newly developed initiatives that the Wellness Task Force is rolling out in 2025. Dr. Yami Bazan, Union’s President, shed some light on the purpose of this new initiative, “One of the goals is to serve as a reminder during the week to take time to recharge and take care of ourselves. We have decided to take on AdventHealth’s acronym CREATION and focus on a letter each month. January is uChoose and February will be uRest and so on and so forth. Every month we will focus on one activity as a campus that will promote the word of the month and relate it to wellness. This month we are asking people to choose wellness and are leading walks at the Reiner Wellness Center at 11:30 for faculty, staff, AND students!”
The idea for Wellness Wednesdays was developed by the Wellness Task Force that Dr. Bazan assembled in the fall. The team is made up of staff, faculty, and campus leaders that are devoted to the conception and enactment of ideas revolving around the wellbeing of students.
College is often a stressful time and students may face challenges related to sleep problems, substance abuse, loneliness, perfectionism, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and the list goes on (Doris). As a result, it is important for students to receive the support they need. Union has made it a notable goal to develop students into Christ-minded, healthy, happy and well-functioning young adults because they are the next generation to proclaim the gospel message.
If you’re interested in participating in sharing the university’s goals in enhancing wellness, head to the Reiner Wellness Center on Wednesdays at 11:30 to take a study break and get involved with this month's Wellness Walks. Keep an eye out on UGroups for next month’s wellness initiative and new developments from the Wellness Task Force. It’s time to come together as a community and uplift each other in mind, body, and spirit in this new year.
